A small and nicely arranged museum about a popular Dutch writer, teacher, unionist, politician and educator Theo Thijssen (1879-1943) and Amsterdam of his times. The museum revokes his popular in the Netherlands books and the atmosphere of the city a century ago. The Museum feels like organized at home, as it is arranged in two rooms of the house which is a modern reconstruction of the one, in which Theo Thijssen has been born. In most of his novels the neighbourhood of his youth plays a permanent role.
The original house has literally fallen apart fifteen years ago. English speaking staff will provide you with explanations as the exhibit is in Dutch. Nonetheless, a place with a very local taste, for Amsterdam history fanatics.
