nacional4Amsterdam’s Leidseplein is a busy, touristic area. Yet, between the tourist-traps you can also find some good hidden spots, such as De Balie, Kerkstraat 59, Sweet Cup, Los Pilones and De Spuyt – not to mention music venues and clubs like Melkweg, Paradiso, and Jimmy Woo. King of Amsterdam’s horeca scene, Casper Reinders now also opened the brand new restaurant Nacional on the Kleine-Gartmanplantsoen, better known as an extension of the Leidseplein, opposite the Apple Store and the Balie. Nacional is a central location with a 24/7 atmosphere. That’s why Nacional is also open from breakfast to late dinner. Perfect if you’ve seen a movie in the cinema next door and you want to talk about it for some extra time. They have a French-inspired menu: from a bouillabaisse to oysters. The interior also has French influences. For the decoration Reinders travelled across France to find dozens of Parisian subway tiles who are now against the wall of the restaurant. The impressive white sculpture in the restaurant is especially made for Nacional by Piet Parra, a Dutch underground/urban artist. Conclusion: a good and central place to meet at any time of the day for both business or pleasure. Please note that last Friday the restaurant was already fully booked for dinner, so make sure to make a reservation for dinner.
